Group Dating Ideas Series #8 - Poker Night
This past weekend, Square 1 Bank sponsored a poker tournament for the TechStars. It was a really fun night and your’s truly even came in third place behind TravelFli’s Austin and BuyPlayWin’s Aziz. More photos here.
About a month ago, in a blog post about Miniature Golf, I mentioned how competitive games can make really good group dates when they are games that anybody can win. Arm wrestling on a date? Not so good. Thumb wrestling? Better. Hobo wrestling? Best.
That’s not to say that there isn’t a certain amount of talent that goes into playing poker (I didn’t win the third place golf windbreaker on luck alone!), but a significant part of poker success also boils down to the hands you’re dealt.
Poker also makes for a good group date because it encourages both conversation and excitement. It’s a nice change of pace from the loud, crowded bar and makes for a good opportunity to get to know your fellow Ignightables.
